SECURITY
What is the design intent behind OTTOLOCK?
OTTOLOCK is designed for quick stops and protecting against theft opportunists, while simultaneously meeting desired low weight and compact size requirements. OTTOLOCK is not designed for overnight or long duration security in high-crime metropolitan areas.
How does OTTOLOCK compare to other types of locks?

Click here to see OTTOLOCK stand up to bolt cutters compared to a cable lock.
How secure is OTTOLOCK? Will it replace my U-Lock?
We have tested the product under many failure modes including tensile pull, torsion, impact, flame temperature and more. You can watch several testing videos on YouTube to see how the OTTOLOCK stands up. OTTOLOCK is stronger than a cable lock against common theft tools such as bolt cutters or wire cutters. Specific to shears, hacksaw, or angle grinder theft attempts, a motivated thief will be able to defeat the OTTOLOCK in a relatively short period of time. It is important to note that all locks can be defeated with proper tools, technique and time.
OTTOLOCK is not a replacement for a U-Lock. For maximum security, use a redundant locking method with both a U-Lock and a secondary lock. Read more about OTTOLOCK Use Guidelines.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Which length OTTOLOCK do I choose for bicycle use?
Your lock up application makes a difference as to which length is the right choice. Many "weight weenies" or serious riders prefer the 18" as it works great for a mid-ride stop and locking a single tube to a post or pole up to 4-5" diameter. The 18" fits in or cinched around a small saddle bag. The 30" is more universal and better for horizontal racks or grabbing hard-to-reach features. It will lock a frame and wheel to a post or pole, or two bikes together. The 60" is what you need if you want to lock both wheels and frame to a post or pole, or secure several bikes. Click here to see how each length compares.
What is the band made of?
The band is made of ten (10) total layers – a combination of high-temper stainless steel and braided DuPont™ Kevlar® internally, and anti-scratch Santoprene® on the exterior.

Can OTTOLOCK be daisy-chained?
Yes! You can connect multiple OTTOLOCKS together for added length.

TROUBLESHOOTING
My OTTOLOCK is stuck (locked bicycle). What can I do?
If your lock button will not depress or doesn't open on combination, it is possible the last digit of your code was accidentally reset somehow. Start with the code you think is right and try rolling the last the last number up one digit until you've tried all nine remaining numbers (e.g. if code is 1-2-3, try 1-2-4, 1-2-5, 1-2-6....1-2-9....1-2-1). If this does not work your lock button may be broken or jammed, and you will need to cut the lock from the bicycle if locked. Contact us at support@ottodesignworks.com for further assistance.
My OTTOLOCK tumblers are stuck and won't turn. What can I do?
Your lock may be partially engaged in combination reset mode. It's important to use a push pin, not a safety pin or paperclip, as they do not have the necessary strength required. Try the following steps:
Step 1: Confirm that the button still pushes in. You may need use some extra force in getting the button to press flush to the lock head (do not press on a table or hard surface). This may free up the locked wheels.
Step 2: If still stuck, try to reset the combination again using a push pin, making sure to push it all the way in until it stops. There should be an audible click, but it is sometimes difficult to hear. Activating the reset and pushing the button flush to the lock head should free up the wheels.
If none of those steps worked... The breakaway button may be been activated. This would mean you will be unable to withdraw the band from the lock head. You can determine if the breakaway has been activated by seeing if the button looks a little crooked. You may need to look from several angles. If the breakaway button has been activated then the lock is no longer functional. Contact us at support@ottodesignworks.com for further assistance.

Crooked angle = activated breakaway button
For additional assistance, watch our Resetting the Combination and OTTOLOCK Troubleshooting videos.
Why does my OTTOLOCK band slide out of the lock without pushing the button?
To engage the lock, do not press the button and give a little push/pull on the band in both directions. This will ensure the locking pawl is seated and engaged in the band teeth and stop it from sliding freely.

Push/pull on the band a little to get it to fully engage and lock in

How do you coil the OTTOLOCK?
Always coil the band around the lock head in order to avoid permanent damage to the lock band.

How do you use the OTTOLOCK Pro Mount?
The OTTOLOCK Pro Mount is a rugged bike mount designed to securely hold your OTTOLOCK on the top tube (A), seat tube (B), or seat post (C). It comes with two interchangeable seat beds to accommodate both aero and round tubes, and is ideal for either the 30” or 60” OTTOLOCK. We advise putting the lock head near the post or tube you mount to so that the weight is closer to the bike frame. We've tested the heck out of the Pro Mount on long gravel rides and 5-hr MTB adventures and there is no problem holding the OTTOLOCK in place. Get the step-by-step assembly and installation instructions.

How do you use the OTTO Mount?
The OTTO Mount is a simple, silicone mount recommended for use with the 18" OTTOLOCK only. It's important to be sure and hook all four (4) of the silicone tabs to the ladder strap if you use the OTTO Mount to carry your lock on your bike. The fit should be snug but do not over-stretch or over-tighten. Also, we advise putting the lock head near the post or tube you mount to so that the weight is closer to the bike frame. Get step-by-step installation instructions on the OTTO Mount Installation page.

I've enjoyed the original OTTO Lock, its ease of use, lightweight and packability. I'm looking forward to all of the above with an additional sense of security with the new HEXBAND.
Thank OTTO Lock.
I do bicycle touring and so weight is a critical issue for me. I have a Kryptonite U-lock with a 4 foot steel cable that allows me to secure the wheels of my bike as well as the frame. It weighs 3.6 pounds according to my digital bathroom scale. I paid $69 for it at my local bikeshop. I bought a 5 foot Ottolock for $80. It weighs 0.6 pounds and I have an extra foot of cable compared to the Kryptonite lock. I don't have to worry about locking up my bike with the U-lock and then loosing the key. For all these reasons, the Ottolock can't be beat!!
Thanks to Otto Design Works for extremely fast shipping!!
Small in size(fits in small XLC bar bag) light weight, good security, got one on each of four bikes.
Great product so far .. wish the digits were larger!
Great concept.... Kinda of difficult to set up with directions but figured it out.
Works as advertised. No problems. Lightweight, easy to carry so I take it on every ride.
These are the best locks EVER!!!!!
Most compact/easiest storage (right under my saddle on the seat post); easy to use combination lock(no key to keep up with); super strong cable strap). I use it primarily for lock during ride breaks for coffee/meals.
I ride with a sizable bike club and smile at the routine the other riders go thru to unwind their lock or giving up all together and hoping their bikes will still be there after the ride break.
These are the perfect lock ... light weight and pack-able. Its nice knowing I have a little security when commuting or touring on my bike. They are always with me !
Socks are stylish too ! I also use the Otto Mounts.. they work well but wish I had bought the OttoLock ProMount.
Lock proved it's the real deal; thief caught while trying to use bolt cutting device, nary a scratch, and was picked up by local Police in the act (tried for 5 or 6 minutes) Chapeau, folks for creating OttoLock!
ordering process was great. Delivery times were swift. Had a product question and received a prompt, accurate answer. Products were ordered for upcoming Xmas presents so haven't been able to use them yet
It's great to have an easy way to lock the bike up in fairly secure areas like indoor bike racks. It's small enough that I don't mind throwing it in my bike bag for my work commute even if I don't think I'll need it.
Not seen anything here in New Zealand that matched the versatility of the Ottolock, use them everyday when out and about on my E - Mountain bike which is expensive so need a good and convenient lock to keep it secure. Been used in all weathers with no problems.
A bit stiff to start with getting the end through the lock but has worn in so much better now.
I purchased this lock to take with me on travel to secure my Brompton. I purchased the longest length so I could secure it through the folded bike. It worked perfectly and the lighter weight was just what I was looking for. I was previously using a big cable lock that had some weight to it. The Ottolock was a much better lock for me.
I really like your locks, but I found that the shorter one is too short to tie my bike to a tree, so i bought the longer one which works very well. I should have also purchased one of your new attachment straps as the new lock is a little heavy for the old smaller strap.
Great product and easy to use - I purchased two for my bike. Orange color is highly visible to show my bike is locked. Lightweight and easily fits in backpack.
Couldn’t love this product more. It removes the anxiety from quick stops during long rides. I’ve even used it as extra security for a bike on my roof rack. I happily recommend it to everyone.
I have a 30" Ottolock which I really like, it is long enough to immobilize the bike but not really long enough to attach to a tree or something permanent that stops the bike being carried away. So I have ordered the 60".
I've used the 18" and 30" models. The 30" is ideal if you want to include a wheel and frame tube when locking up. See Size Selector on the site for details. I use this for my bike and also my skis when stashing them in the backcountry and resort racks. Light, burly, easy to pack. The combo is a big plus v. keyed locks I've previously used. I've given a half dozen as gifts as well. LOVE this lock.
Simple to set up and use, light, and small. Perfect!
I've had this lock about 4 weeks and carry it as a back up for bike commuting and as my primary for running errands, the gym
Pros: lightweight, flexible, better than a cable and lighter and more adaptable than a u-lock. Have not encountered a theft attempt, but seems relatively safe.
Cons: not major, but the locking mechanism sticks at first, but have worked through that. The rotors on the lock are small and you can't work them with full finger gloves on. They are a bit hard even without gloves.
Great lock overall and with some tweaks, will be a 5 star product
My brand new 750W electric fat bike sports both an 60" Ottolock and an ORP with a Remorp. From an advanced on-board computer, iPhone with bluetooth connectivity, Zackees turn signal LED gloves. GPS locator built into the bike and now an Ottolock and an ORP, this is the most technically advanced electric vehicle in the state of Rhode Island. Sompin bad is definitely gonna happen!
I received this lock as part of a larger purchase and I must say to my surprise it’s the best gift thanks flashbike and Otto lock.
I searched and read reviews looking for a lightweight yet secure lock for our quick stops in restaurants and such, this lock is the answer. It weighs very little, folds up small ( we bought two 30 inch models) and fits easily in our small saddle bags. Easy to use, I would rate it 5 stars but for the number rotation system. I wish the individual number dials had a stronger detention system, my fingers too easily bump and move the adjoining dials when setting to combo. But love this lock.
The customer service provided by Ottolock is outstanding. My wife has been using a lock daily since May 2017. The tip broke and she asked me to see if I could fix it. It could not be fixed. Since it is a relatively new product I thought Ottolock would like to know about the tip problem. I sent pictures. I knew there was no warranty. I was totally blown away when within 30 minutes of my email to Ottolock I had a reply! They knew about the problem and replaced the 2 locks we had purchased in May 2017. It appears they have fixed the problem. Time will tell. This is incredible customer service deserving of all stars. We like how the lock stores easily and is easy to use. We actually use one when we are gone on holiday to provide an additional lock our French doors. Definitely a product we will recommend to friends and family.
This lock is super light and handy. I bought this as part of kickstarter and I’m glad I have it. I mean, I’ve had a krypto lock forever but should nice it weighs a ton I never have it when I need it. However, I’d say the smallest size would be as tough to use as the u-lock and the 30” doesn’t measure to that distance after being locked in... so if weight is everything and the 80 grams difference helps you to carry it everywhere which I do in my camelback, that’s sensible. Still every time I use it I wish it just a bit was longer. I vote for version 2 with a 45” option. If I get another one it’ll be the bigger size.
Got this lock as apart of Kickstarter. We have been using this lock pretty regularly for riding around the city, bike camping, and long distance rides. The lock is lightweight and the ease of use is the best part. Fits in any bag, jersey or pants pocket for any adventure, and we hardly even know it’s there. We both love the lock very much, however the metal core has started to poke its way from the bottom of the silicone. It’s almost always exposed at this point, with the Kevlar now showing. While the lock still works, it is now forced into a bag as it’ll snag clothing or could even scratch the bike frame. Overall awesome lock, just needs a tweak in design so the core has room to move when it gets rolled up.
You'll will never want another lock until you've tried this one. I carry 2 locks, the Ottolock is my main goto lock. It's easy to use, stores nicely and is lite-weight. I have the 30-inch lock which is long enough.
I love this lock, but I'm finding the 30" length makes it hard for me to lock my bike up to anything with a diameter larger than 6 inches. My bike's frame is carbon and I don't want to put the frame directly up against what ever I'm locking the bike to.
To solve this problem I've ordered the 60" model.
If you have any doubts about what length you need go with the longer version. I
Locks have always been a cumbersome experience and with the Otto lock - I can happily say that those days and woes are gone. Easy to use, light, and actually is going to keep my bike safe! If you don’t have one yet, you’re missing out.
Had an issue resetting the combo and since they were closed for the holidays I sent a message.... Tamy got back to me and walked me thru the reset.... The reset pin needs to be pressed in firmly pay the first little click.... Thank you for the reply and not making me wait till Tuesday.... Probably ordering another to daisy chain them
My early (KickStarter) OttoLock became difficult to operate as rubber wore off the tip. I sent a photo to the company, and they sent me a free replacement within a week. The new lock has a reinforced tip.
I ordered my Ottolock and when it came I could not change the lock combination or get it to work properly. Once I got hold of the company, Amy was fantastic in resolving my problem, calling me 3 times to help me and make sure my lock was working properly. Now that is a company who stands behind their product!
Ottolock is beyond excellent. Having a VERY light lock that you can carry around with minimal effort but that is still robust enough to ensure that you prized machine doesn't walk away while you run an errand is PRICELESS! I use my frequently for coffee stops on training rides or for errands going to and from work. It's perfect for quick stops. Would recommend 100%.
After a very long wait my locks arrived, with an unwelcome and unexpected bill from the shippers. My $100 Ottolock purchase ended up costing $165, with $25 shipping, £19 VAT, and £11 "handling fee". My advice - don't even think about buying this lock if you live outside the USA. Customer service didn't even respond to my concerns about these unexpected additional charges.
OTTOLOCK is light weight, non scratching, very quick and easy to use and most important...secure. Cannot be cut with bolt cutters. It fits easily in jersey pocket without knowing it is there, or use frame attachment holder that comes with the lock.
The small lock is a perfect size for me to lock my bike with another to prevent a 'grab-and-ride' while we stopped for coffee...don't have to constantly keep an eye on our bikes!
I suggest also offering a bike lock with a longer strap.
I ride a Cannondale "Super V 3000", where the Top Tube connects from part way down the Down Tube, not from the Head Tube. The lock works fine on bike posts where I park parallel to the stand. But the lock is too short to use on the bike racks where you put the front wheel in. Another foot longer would be all I needed.
Took advantage of the early Kickstarter offers, and it was a long wait... but the wait was worth it. Small investment to hang on to my very overpriced ride. LOL Now I can enjoy a beverage out, without constantly checking on the status of my bike. Purchased both the 18" & 60" . Big one for family outings, or to bring along on RAGBRAI, as sometimes, bikes unfortunately, disappear.
Part of being a cyclist is stopping at the coffee shop on every ride, or the local watering hole post ride. With the otto lock, you can get your hardest training days in without worry and also keep your machine safe no matter where you decide to stop. Peace of mind and relaxation is all key to good performance. This lock allows for all.
I've been using my ottolock for a couple of weeks now and it is a total game changer for me. Not having to carry a u-lock has made my day to day so much better! The lock works great and I love it.
My locks arrived this week and I love them. So easy to stow in my jersey pocket or rack trunk bag and so lightweight. It's perfect for those urban adventures where I just want to stop, lock and shop for a few minutes or grab coffee. I also plan to take on my longer rides where I don't need an overnight lock but need a lock for the stops. I would recommend the lock to friends.
In one word this is a GREAT lock. It conveniently attaches to your frame, fits easily in a pack, jersey pocket or just around your arm. The combination means you don't have to worry about a key and the innovative strap easily fits around poles or stands to secure your bike. This is a great lock for moving around town and safely securing your bike as you pick up something from the store, grab a espresso, or catch a movie. A great new lock for our growing bike culture.
In the past, when headed to the coffee shop to meet friends, my routine was: wallet, check. Keys, check. Cell phone, check, Mini U-lock.... ugh. I constantly found myself looking for a small hip pack or bag just to carry my u-lock. My u-lock is heavy, bulky and doesn't give me many locking options for a short ride to run errands. I love that my 18" Ottolock can attach to virtually any place on my bike frame that I can dream up OR it can pack down and into a pocket. The Ottolock is incredibly lightweight and convenient. Obviously I wouldn't use the Ottolock for overnight security, but to go for a 3+ hour road ride and stop on the way home for snacks and not have to worry about checking on my bike while I am eating is an amazing feeling.
I've had my OTTOLOCK for 3 days. I've used it to lock my bike up in about 10 different places in downtown San Francisco. It's awesome. I even saw a guy try to take my bike (because the otto is pretty small). He gave it a few yanks, and gave up. The lock is light, bright (I have orange), and just cool.
Got my OTTOLOCK last week and it is FANTASTIC! No more carrying around my bulky u-lock when I'm running quick errands. I still use the u-lock to keep my bike secure for overnight safety, but when I'm headed out to lunch or an errand I only take my OTTOLOCK. Frame attachment strap works great, but I usually just put the lock in my pocket - its that small and light weight. THANK YOU!
